A File Format for compression, a standard the world over, created by PKWare, who continues to create compression products.
Other compatible ZIP software:
- WinZIP - possibly the most popular, this famous front-end for ZIP files adds a variety of features to ZIP files. (commercial nagware)
- CoffeeCup's Zip Wizard - one free alternative.
- UltimateZIP Free fully-featured ZIP tool with a list of features. adware-supported.
- Although the standard, other algorithms besides ZIP exist, however. Some provide better compression, such as RAR and 7ZIP while others are faster/open-source such as BZIP2, and GZIP (the open-source ZIP compression algorithm).
