Talk:Winamp

From iA wiki

Im not sure winamp is excellent. It is a good feature rich audio player but sux too much memory and cpu, esp if you just want non-stop background music. - ABliss

Alternative? Webfork

Coolplayer? Sonique was popular back when I used whimdoze. Actually, kazaa lite's mini-player does the job quite nicely on very low-end systems, from what I can see.. it must be pretty light. -- rack
Kazaa Lite, eh? That'll work. Also, I did some digging and found two that I'll shortly be testing: Ultima Mp3 Player and 1by1
1by1 was fabulous. I highly recommend it. Very small file size, memory usage, and processor use. Webfork
foobar2000 is a VERY minimalist mp3 player for win32. check it out... no skins here
An alternative application for listening to mp3s is with STP but it's not cross-platform, nor does it play ogg vorbis files. - ABliss

Zinf is worth checking out, its licenced under the GPL and is available for a few different operating systems (I haven't paid much attention to its memory consumption tho - a quick look tells me that on Windows 2000 it uses 6MB when first opened and 10MB with some random file loaded). -+thegoldenear

Also: Zinf plays Ogg Vorbis files. Bonus.
