One of the major, proprietary instant messenger protocols. Official clients are only available for Windows and OS X. However there are many unofficial clients including GAIM, Bitlbee, Trillian, etc.. Of note, GAIM uses less memory and processor cycles but does not support many of MSN's features such as videoconferencing the smooth, texturous interface.
