A standard protocol for data communication that allows computer peripherals to be connected and receive or send data with a much higher bandwidth than earlier standards. USB has surpassed FireWire in popularity for most peripherals barring perhaps video devices.
USB 2.0 ("Hi-Speed USB") is the current version.
