Talk:SourceForge

From iA wiki

Heads up, we may have a revolt starting:

From giFTcurs, a giFT client:

Due to SourceForge's continually decreasing level of service and their increasing use of non-free software, we have decided to move to Savannah.

You know something that'd improve SF immensely is if they just frigging deleted all the "pre-alpha" and buggyass projects that are on there. Yes, i go to SF to find programs before i try anywhere else, but wading through the crap is getting more and more frustrating. Their search engine wouldn't be down anywhere near as often if it didn't have to search through the 90% of projects that never got anywhere or are no longer developed. -- Amw

Take for example VeniVidiVoti. Its been dead for 10 months now. - ABliss
You could use Freshmeat to search for software. They just link to a specific project, and most software is free (speech) afaict.
As for dead projects, kicking off source is something i find a bit rude. An alternative could be to extend the search, allowing one not to search in projects which have been inactive for X time. Have you discussed this with Sourceforge staff already? They seemed rather friendly when i contacted them to discuss a few bugs... dpi
