Talk:Slackware
From iA wiki
From the perspective of an old-time DOS user who was thrust into the Windows world and hasn't been happy since: ->
I use Slackware. Before settling down and planting my roots with it I expermimented with other distributions, even other operating systems. I tried and failed. I waited and read and learned and matured.. but when trying a second, a third, and countless other times, I've failed in ways in which even now I can't comprehend. Slackware is the only distribution which has consistantly worked with the least soulful effort. I still feel the sweet lures out there in the world, but every time I travel away from my home that is Slackware and play with an alternative I am bitten. Where others have promised "big features" I have seen only "big problems". Slackware's promises are notibly moderate in comparison, but it delivers the goods without exception. Maybe it's just me, but I'm happy. I don't know how to express myself fully on this issue.. I can only say that where Linux is magic to most, Slackware is the more magic which I've been longing for. ->
Yes, I still feel the lure to alternatives.. but I feel the presence of Slackware staring at me, standing resolute with arms crossed.. waiting for me to turn back and be humbled. -- rack
