Actually, the program's applications run locally on the user's desktop and are available offline so that a user may work with or without an internet connection. Functions such as e-mail, IM, and access to the World Wide Server (for internet-based file storage) can be accessed anytime a user is on-line, and e-mails and PIM details can be downloaded for off-line work.

Additionally, SimDesk secures a user's data prior to any file transmission, so data is protected even when working over a public internet connection such as a wi-fi hotspot. This alleviates many of the potential problems users open themselves up to unknowingly.

I tested the program myself and quit using it because it would not work offline. It seemed like a great program and a great idea and I would have much rather used it than most other services, including Microsoft Office but unless they've developed an update for the program that no longer does that, my experience is that if the SimDesk server or my Internet connection goes down, so too does SimDesk. Moronic but true. That's the ONLY reason I uninstalled it. Webfork
