Try the Habermas Webography or these Habemas links. He is a German philosopher. He first identified a growing public sphere in the french aristocracy. I think his idea was that the venues and places that the rich people in a post-revolution France got together and spoke about politics and their lifestyle was the first time and place and decent form of public sphere began to take shape. I haven't read that paper or much of his stuff. But lots of other people have and his work is well cited. I have a major piece about politics, internet and the public sphere to add to this topic asap. - ABliss
