I think it's really sad the demo scene has died. Linux and Windows 95 killed it, really. MS-DOS was the last mainstream operating system that allowed direct access to hardware, which was the key to pushing the computer to its limits. There were some amazing works of art done on the C64, CPC, Atari, Amiga and MS-DOS boxes... Stuff you never see nowadays with 3D-accelerated graphics cards and high-level programming languages. It makes me pine for the days when cyberpunk really meant PUNK - brightly-colored mohawks and incredibly fast spinning 3D graphics and techno music and just computers that were COMPUTERS and not some general-purpose appliance like they are today. -- Amw
Man there are so many groups, i wouldn't know where to start. Many consider FC to be the cream of MS-DOS demos, but hmm. Is anyone interested in this? Google Directory Link
I had revisited the demo scene a while back, to see what I could put on a new computer to show it off.. there's a lot of stuff still out there, and the demo scene is still as disorganized as ever, but it appeared at the time to be very much alive. There are graphics-accelerated demos and such under windows, linux and whatnot, which are quite impressive.. Technically, I will be visiting demoscene when my own abaondonware, emulation, oldschool gaming and other projects get completed. Maybe then I'd come back here and help populate things, but that'd be a while. -- Sy
