Talk:Pornography
From iA wiki
- I have no objection against links to normal pornography (use common sense, no kiddy/animal porn) and doubt a realistic risk of liability exists. The artificial child porn link was a bit problematic, because that would be illegal in Germany, but the actual pictures were harmless enough to allow it. Since most porn directories are full of advertising, links to decent free porn sites may be useful to people perusing this wiki.
- BTW, I have done quite a lot of research into the scientific study of pornography myself, a summary of a lecture on the subject I gave on the July 2000 Congress of the European Federation of Sexology can be found here. Frankly, I doubt pornography would have much of a negative impact on any child who seeks it out, regardless of age, but such an attitude is of course counter to the prevailing hysteria. --Erik
Let me restate my opinion: the only reason this topic should be censored is if there is a legal issue involved. I am not a lawyer and I do not own this server so I cannot defend it. Can we really restrict age 13 and younger children? No - that is of course clear. Are there people taking legal action against the alt.sex newsgroups or pornograhic Web sites? I am unaware of any. The Child Descency Act (CDA) has not come back into congress, as far as I know.
But someone who's a lawyer or who owns the server needs to make a decision and just go with it. Because I'm certainly not going to willingly just take down information about Pornography because it *might* be a problem later. That's a dangerous preceedent. What if, in the future, someone doesn't like Infoanarchy's stories that are critical of US Policy? Or doesn't like how we describe McAfee Virus Scan (and, if you think I'm picking McAfee out of a hat, read this story).
Infonanarchy is all about free speech.
- I believe I have made myself clear above, no? Consider that the current policy and feel free to edit accordingly.--Erik
- Aah, this is all good to hear. As long as there are no overriding legal concerns with the host or it's country, I'm cool with it all. I'll do some reversion to recover removed links. -- Sy
We'll need to categorize things pretty soon.. and also make some discussion on advertising and pornography.. perhaps discuss the economy of porn. Porn may well be the #1 economic power on the internet afterall. Furthermore, discussion of popups, and "ad-free" type websites could also be made.. it'd be nice to be able to distinguish certain types of links from others.. for example, thehun is pretty legendary for refusing to link to websites which have popups etc. Many other websites have followed suit. Some discussion on these sorts of things would be nice, if there are those among us who are in the know. -- Sy
Is it just me or do 90% of the picture links on the links page suck? -- Amw

You'd think with all the free, unrestricted pornographic material on file sharing networks that the mass media and government would be discussing its availability and distribution as much or more than music and movie piracy. But they don't...why is that? It's not about money, cause the porn industry is huge. Could it be that they know they can't really do anything about the situation and that revealing what is accessible, especially sex-related material, would attract more and more people. I would suggest that if there is any success at bringing down these networks the first indicator would be the authorities claiming a clamp down of p2p pornography. - ABliss
Good point - I'm glad I found this place btw. Anyway there's a BIG crackdown in place on porn at the moment and pornographers in the states are running scared from 2257 This proposed legislation is turning webmaster against webmaster because now everyone who puts an explicit pic on a webpage had to also post the details of the model etc. Not only that but you have to have those records on file available 365. I'm glad I'm european.
The important thing for me is that porn had always been at the vanguard of personal rights and freedom. If the man can attack porn a so effectively the little man is next. Already this bill(or whatever it is) is forcing amateur exhibitionists back into the shadows(lol) and small sites who just want to be kinky or whatever have to know give up their freedom. It's like the taliban really won. Now that IS perverse.
After all that shit here's some porn and a bit more!
Pallando writes: I seem to remember that the dictionary definitions are
- Erotica
- material (not necessarily visual material) intended to be sexually arousing
- Pornography
- sexually explicit material (not necessarily visual material) intended to be sexually arousing
(Note the distinction between 'definition' and 'derivation'. The English term 'pornography' comes from the French, and they are both fairly recent, being coined in the 19th centuary from the Greek words for 'writing' and 'harlot', so can be roughly translated as "writing of harlots" or "writing about harlots".)
