Talk:OS X
From iA wiki
Should talk about what this is used on, some more of its functionality.. perhaps some history or how this has changed its users / platform / etc.. Maybe even talk about some default apps included with the major distro -- rack
- Fink - The Fink project wants to bring the full world of Unix Open Source software to Darwin and Mac OS X. We modify Unix software so that it compiles and runs on Mac OS X ("port" it) and make it available for download as a coherent distribution. Fink uses Debian tools like dpkg and apt-get to provide powerful binary package management.
- See Fink for now.
- I'm wondering if OS X is the correct name. If you say MacOS, wouldn't you say: MacOSX then? Or: MacOS X? I don't know, but i do know i had some problems with using OSX earlier on this Wiki... -- dpi
- I went through this in depth working for a very Mac-friendly area as a technical writer. The term that Apple uses is in fact "Mac OS X" but no one EVER says that. They invariably say "OS X" and I'm much more interested in what people actually use than the corporate choice - that's how language is created. I've only had one guy I ever met insist that I call it "OS TEN".
