Why is it called KNOPPIX? What does Knoppix stand for? At the homepage, it's written then in big letters, and then in small ones. Does it have a function, if so, which? Or, perhaps the reason is marketing? - dpi

I always figured it had something to do with "knoppen", which is the Dutch word for buttons or knobs or something. I'm guessing the German word would be similar. It's like an old synth with lots of "knoppen" on the front but it's UNIX so it's "knoppen-ix" or "Knoppix". :-) -- Amw

...but as it turns out, it's actually a play on the name of the guy who put it together - Klaus Knopper. Must be the Slashdot reader in me, neglecting to RTFA :) -- Amw
