The newest thing is S-ATA. Look it up.
I may be wrong, but as far as i know Serial-ATA and ATA both fall into the category of IDE. Regarding the head issue, there are obviously many more components in a hard disk than what i mentioned, but that's why i said it was a simple description. Feel free to change it if you'd like to add more - that's what a Wiki is all about.
