Talk:Google

From iA wiki

Hello ppls, I just tried to add the Search_engines category to this article. When doing this it wouldn't let me save google-watch and scroogle urls, although they were already in the document. Pls look into this someone who can do it. -- Fghj 23:28, 12 December 2007 (CET)

I've noticed that google linux is pretty terrible in comparison to regular google for finding a number of links. What is always a first hit under regular googling isn't anywhere to be seen under google linux. Strange. -- Sy

I've noticed that for a few infoanarchy pages and wiki entries, we are #4 for Google:Tigertree and we really don't have much up on the topic.

Tigertree as a SourceForge project doesn't have much to say so posting more on the topic isn't really possible. Webfork
It was ranked third just a minute ago. I guess Google sees iA and presumably other wikis as authoritative, and ranks them higher. Since there is not much activity the iA entry moves to the top. - ABliss 00:10, 4 Dec 2004 (GMT)

Google News is good but not great. I am not sure how they "auto-generate" the front page of the news article. Could they be ranking authors and news organisations as well as each article? I wonder if they have some vast categorization classification which is layed over things initial algorithms to somehow bias search results and business towards them.

They do pull up some jems, like this one about the Australian federal judge, chucking out most of the affidavits against KaZaA, asking the music industry lawyers about their tracking p2p users, and distributing spoof files. There is also a court room transcript.

The first time I noticed an item on peak oil on the front news page, the author suggested that as oil prices go up, the discovery and production of oil, will then automatically increase. I thought...did she think that was going to go on forever? Basically it was a very weak report that skimmed the important issues, and had a narrow point of view when compared to hundreds of other articles one the same topic. Maybe 4500 news organisation isn't adequate anymore. They say that Google is collected more via source-suggestions@google.com and it still is in beta. I'm looking forward to Google News upgrading. - ABliss 00:10, 4 Dec 2004 (GMT)
