Talk:Extremism
From iA wiki
No, really?
It is bullshit. YOU try coming up with an example of extremism relevant to infoanarchy. All I could come up with was a kiddie-like fascination with a stuff-for-free bonanza at 2 a.m. last night. Change it - I promise you won't hurt my feelings. webfork
This entry is bullshit. I totally abandoned copyright months ago. Because if someone has produced something - they do not need (emphasis) to be paid for its production. The task has been completed voluntarily, regardless of what compensation may be given in the future. People can spend time, effort and money voluntarily to create what they are able and what they want. People do things for nothing all the time. People do things because they want to. If those people who made music for money stop sharing then I think it is better than the sick system we have now, ok?
If someone wants to them keep what they produce, private or public they may. This has and always will be everyones choice. If someone wants to share something that is great, especially if it is a digital product since replication is costless nowadays.
What many people do is download stuff for free and never ever think twice about it. Face it baby, copyright is way dead. Those people creating products and thinking of money can fuck off forever asap. That is the old dangerous way of thinking. If markets and society change dramatically then it is for the better. Im not into profit because it is inherently unsustainable. Creating wealth for everyone is a far better idea and of course the removal of copyright would make everyone richer because the public domain would be so much larger.
Was someone suggesting that no-one in China ever verbally criticizes the government? I think false statements like that and ones like "God is Great" and "God Bless America" are extreme, because it is gibber taken seriously. - ABliss
- I think you misread something. Does the entry say "no one in china ever verbally critisizes the government?" No - it says that verbally critisizing the government HERE isn't dangerous but in China it is. That makes me think you just did it to make that point about the separation of church and state there at the end.
- I actually agree with you about the public domain and how abandoning copyright would benefit us all but I still think its an extreme opinion (held fervently that is the opposite of moderate). The reason I feel this way is if you read up on the history of copyright legislation, you'll find out that when governments started to impliment copyright/intellectual property, their neighbors would try to up the ante on length of copyright in an attempt to woo artists / media industry to their country. From a historical perspective, its probably not going to happen - not in America, at least, where the media industry is so huge.
- I think you've provided a good definition of extreme by just being fairly extreme yourself. Please feel free to provide an *extreme* response to this. On a skateboard with a cool haircut, if at all possible. Webfork
There was a change in language on the topic-proper, claiming that certain forms of extremism are not Dangerous. This is untrue. The potential for strongly opposing opinions on a topic make the topic Dangerous. This is one of the very definitions of Dangerous, that there is no need for violence.
=p
-- rack
I would say that the saying "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" really applies here. The government does not want new ideas and social change to interrupt their power framework. That is dangerous to those-in-charge:
- The government is currently watching anti-World Trade Organization members very carefully, even though there are tens of thousands of them who are non-violent.
- Before he was embraced as a hero, the government was very carefully watching Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His philosophy was civil disobedience and non-violence.
So, I agree with you, violence as having some place in extremism just depends on who you could hurt in terms of money or status, not in who gets physically hurt.
someone who highly belvies , in his ideas , and will not tolerate any other ideas but his own
