Talk:Copyright Term Reform

From iA wiki

You have k5 and iA under your belt, how about Slashdot? It is just a question of getting through the dreaded slashdot submission process. -- nw

Hi! Yes, we need to get on Slashdot. But I want to create a wave in the weblog scene first, and I also have to convince Timothy not to put it in a Slashback about Eldred (which would have almost no effect - I know the Slashback effect). I'll try to take care of this, but feel free to send a submission in the meantime - copy and paste whatever you want. I'm a bit worried how much load our poor mailing list CGI script can handle - I'll guess we'll have to wait and see. --Erik

Can we start putting information together here about the DigitalMediaConsumerRightsAct? I'm concerned that it might have hidden faults. On a completely separate note, the logo looks like a cross between the anarchy symbol and a pentagram, probably not the best association to have for a project intended to gather support among the masses. -- BobbyMartin

Sure, the iA wiki is for general cyber liberties related stuff, but the Copyright Term Reform page an subpages aswell as the mailing list should be devoted exclusively to this topic. BTW, we don't use CamelCase around here - just put the words with blanks between them in double square brackets. Yeah, the logo may be a bit off-putting, but it's been around for a while (we're online since August 2000) and will probably stay unless someone comes up with a good alternative. It's not like I'm cluttering the pages with it. --Erik
Heh, I actually tinkered with redoing the logo as a bit of a joke to myself.. thinking the current one was pretty good. I've got a friend who does logos professionally who I could ask for help. I personally like the anarchy symbol the way it is, but it might be cleaned up a bit. Meh.. the way I see it is that the people who would be offended by the symbol would probably be offended by our content anyway. -- rack
Not sure if this would be the appropriate place, but what about a section where people can add links to sites that address this topic. Seems one of the issues was finding out who's alread doing this and working with those poeple to create a stronger voice. I think a section where we can list other groups involved (or websites) would be very useful and would help centralize information for people just becoming aware of this issue. --NemiSYS
Good idea, feel free to add such links to the Copyright Background page, or, for individuals, to our Friends and Enemies page.--Erik
Here are a couple of great links:
David Mattison will use this wiki as an example in his upcoming article on Wikis and online collaboratve content management systems for Searcher magazine (http://www.infotoday.com/searcher). --[David Mattison, 2003/01/19]

This might be slightly OT but i just downloaded an american propaganda movie from the 40's ("Hitlers Children"). I recommend this for everyone, it's really funny :) I can understand that Disney don't want this stuff in the public domain ;). Does someone knows if there is a possibilty to get this flicks without using one of the evil p2p networks? IMHO it would be interesting to look for other copyrighted historical media.

Here are some hints how to get these movies: sharereactor.com (please don't blame me for looking for old italian zombie movies ;)

Is this wiki and associated mailing list dead? Last email I got is from 22/4/2003!! And the one before that on 9/04/2003.

It's still twitching. We need to get our act together soon, however. I have registered iprogress.org and plan to set that up as soon as I find the time. I'm on my diploma right now, though, so time is hard to come by. --Erik
