Talk:Borg

From iA wiki

Also compare the term "rape". While extraordinarily offensive when actually used, it is similar in use to "borg". I found myself using the term "planet raping" when discussing, say, the abuse of natural resources or the terrorforming frequently seen in the world.. and when playing StarCon 2.
=)
-- Sy

Borg Borg Borg, man, sounds like the Swedish Chef in here -- Amw

Something is wrong in this topic, i can't quite put my finger on it. Being a bit of a Star Trek fan i would focus very much on the "you will be assimilated" part. Assimilation is not a bad thing per se, it just means things are being folded into the same umbrella. It's the opposite of diversification - e.g. it might happen if multiple projects are merged or (in Microsoft's case) it might happen if a standard gets enhanced and then that enhanced version becomes more popular than the original... It's not so much competition specifically as making competition redundant - it doesn't matter any more because it's all been assimilated into one amorphous blob. Sy's thing with borging the IA reference pages makes sense to me. -- Amw

I agree - the page is not very tightly written. I'll go over it a few more times and make sure if flows well. Webfork

Neat.. I like that this topic got a refactor. I didn't think that my use would be picked up. =) I've begun using borg in the real world, and it's becoming more popular to describe a software project's examination and later assimilation of the features in competitive software. -- Sy
