Talk:Anti-Zealot
From iA wiki
Something told me Amw wrote that. Must have been a little bird. Webfork
- Good call ;-) Bottom line is i'm really getting tired of these little Slashdot-style "battles" with some of the other editors on here and i'm just over it. I disagree with a lot of what's said, but i have more important things to spend my time on. At the end of the day, whether free software "triumphs" or not i'm still going to be writing music and spending time with the people i love and living my life. It's really not that big of a deal. -- Amw
- I considered this entry for quite some time and one point I'd like to make is that it implies complacency. While I agree its very important not take life too seriously, I think its fallacy not to be devoted to change and growth. Although I think you're implying that here, I'm not sure.
- Everyone else seems to hate its mindless denizens of the world who are tourists in their own neighborhood, much less the rest of the world. I'd take some politically aware Zealots over some bar-coded moron consumer any day. When almost 1/5th of the world doesn't have clean drinking water, censorship just seems to get worse, and nobody knows the long-term effects of genetically modified foods and we're all guinea pigs - things are pretty screwy. Sure, I can't fix all the worlds problems but sit on my ass and just hope it turns out ok? No thanks. In that sense, I'm afraid I'm quite Pro-Zealot.
- Sure, mindless Extremists who don't listen to any contrasting ideas suck and Zealots who are all talk are even worse. But people seem at least reasonable here on iA.
I couldn't be anti-zealot because when people discuss why they strongly believe in something it not only gives me an opportunity to understand what people are thinking but also an opportunity to contend with counter points. This is why restricted speech means nothing to me. The problem is that people use a communications platform which is not two-way, which doesn't allow for interaction with positive feedback. - ABliss
Back to the definition referring to "in peace". Peace is not merely the absense of direct violence. For example a muslim country can be "in peace", but still have law which discriminates against women. Harm is not just an act of violence, its an act of ignorance and denial too. - ABliss
- Oh i agree. In this context "in peace" just meant "without disruption". It's not really important to me what the details of a person's life are as long as they and the people around them are content with it. -- Amw
