You'd be surprised how much alpha software DOES get to end users. Perhaps not for general software like Windows or something, but lots and lots of software companies use the so-called prototyping model that involves sending mock-ups, alphas, betas etc. out to clients so they can test software and give feedback as it's being developed. -- Amw
