Talk:7z
From iA wiki
"Although it is the best compression method to date for many types of files, large text files or groups of similar text files compress better with RAR."
- What does 'it' refer to? 7z is not a compression method and 7 file formats were stated shortly before this sentence.
- This sentence only applies to Windows, which should be stated somewhere. Good Thing it's open-source, but that doesn't mean it runs native on open-source OSes (Linux, BSD, ...).
- Does anyone have a good analysis on several compression methods? Just saying RAR is better doesn't convince me at all. --dpi
Here's a process: go get a bunch of text files and compress them. Then get a bunch of other types of files an compress those. I'll give you a preview: 7zip compresses everything other than text files better. ZIP, though ubiquious across operating systems, sucks by comparison. Thanks for the bits you suggested - I'll fix 'em. Webfork
- I can't test that out, except with WINE, which is probably not compared fair next to native. Thanks for clearing the subject dpi
