Acronym: Performance Optimized With Enhanced RISC Performance Chip
AKA: POWER, PPC, POWERPC
A CPU architecture developed by Motorola, IBM and Apple. Since the early '90's PPC offered an alternative to 68k and x86 processors. Apple is a well known computer maker depending on the PPC. Currently the fastest PowerPC4 CPU is the 2GHz 970 dubbed G5 by Apple although the POWER5 is in development.
