Patch

A minor upgrade of software code, often for security purposes. Examples include

• fix known vulnerabilities, stop exploits, etc
• changing errors arising from a bad default setting
• Service Packs for an OS.

A patch is something less that a release because it is not really a new version. Patches can usually be found on web sites.
