Alternate DNS listing service created to replace the DNS currently in use. Unlike ICANN, alternative registrar OpenNIC is designed to operate in a manner which is user owned and controlled. Entries placed in Openic may be searched.

The original idea behind this project was first discussed at Kuro5hin.
