The campaign to free Kevin Mitnick, a now convicted cyber-cracker, characterized most publicly by yellow and black bumper stickers / Web site icons. Many of Mitnick's civil liberties were violated during his litigation, which drew the attention of the Internet and advocates of due process under the law.
After this, he was released with conditions including that he not be allowed to use a computer or telephone for several years. He is currently free and without restrictions on computer use.
There were a wide variety of social and technical issues that the Mitnick case has brought to light including the ignorance of the courts and legilative systems to technology, the fame and image of the hacker mystique, and the ability for the Internet community to rally around one of its own.
