Text-based expressions that help give the reader a sense of the writer's feelings. For example, a smiley face such as =) indicates a happy response or shows that the writer's message is in good humor. Emoticons can also be used to create objects or other entities. For example, |_P is used to represent a coffee cup, while @(-_-)@ is a monkey face.
