BBC News is the largest broadcast news operation in the world with more than 2,000 journalists and 48 newsgathering bureaux, 41 of which are overseas.

The international television news service, like its major competitors, is dominated by business interests and some parts of regular programming are staged live from Washington and New York, USA. The BBC has a popular world news radio service.

The BBC was severely hamstrung after the release of the Hutton Report in 2003.
